Vogt sells shower systems two ways: a SET that includes the valve, and a TM trim that needs a separate VE rough-in valve. Order the wrong combination and the parts simply won’t work together. This guide shows how the codes work, how to match a trim to its valve, what the Vogt spec sheets say about flow and rough-in depth, and how to decide between pressure-balanced and thermostatic control. All figures come from Vogt spec sheets and our product pages.
Quick answer
- SET = a complete kit. Vogt’s SET.AP.110.100 sheet lists the VE.110 valve, the trim, a sliding bar with hand shower and the elbow connector as its components. Every Vogt SET page on our site states “Rough-in valve: included” and names the valve.
- TM = trim only. The page says the valve is not included and names the VE valve you must buy.
- VE = the in-wall rough-in valve (pressure-balanced or thermostatic, 1-, 2- or 3-way).
- Rule: the middle number of the code (110, 210, 220, 310, 320) tells you the valve type. Match it, then confirm on the trim page.
- Not sure? Buy the SET. Want to keep the valve and swap trim later? Buy TM + VE.
How to read Vogt shower codes
| Code | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| SET.… | Complete shower kit; the product page states “Rough-in valve: included” and names the valve model. | Kapfenberg 2-way thermostatic kit |
| TM.… | Trim only (handle, plate and outlets). Valve sold separately. | Kapfenberg trim for the 2-way thermostatic kit |
| VE.… | The rough-in valve that goes inside the wall. | VE.220 2-way thermostatic valve |
| 110 / 210 / 310 | Pressure-balanced (PB) valve: 1-way / 2-way / 3-way. | VE.110, VE.210, VE.310 |
| 220 / 320 | Thermostatic (TH) valve: 2-way / 3-way. | VE.220, VE.320 |
| 350 (and 250, 450) | 3/4″ high-flow valve family, per our product pages. | VE.350 high-flow valve with 3 volume controls |
“1-way” means one outlet at a time (for example, a shower head), “2-way” adds a second accessory such as a hand shower, and “3-way” adds a third. On the Kapfenberg 2-way kit, our page notes that accessories 1 and 2 can work simultaneously; on 3-way thermostatic valves Vogt’s instructions say accessories 1 & 2 or 2 & 3 can run together. Confirm the exact combination for your kit on its page.
SET vs TM + VE: which route is right?
| SET (kit with valve) | TM trim + VE valve | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | Valve, trim and the shower accessories in the kit (see product page for the exact list). | Trim only; the VE valve is a separate purchase. |
| Simplicity | One SKU, matched parts. | Two SKUs; you must match trim to valve. |
| Flexibility | Less: the valve arrives with the kit. | More: install the valve during rough-in, choose the trim later. |
| Best for | New builds and single-purchase renovations. | Plumbers roughing in ahead of finishes, or replacing trim on an existing Vogt valve. |
| Main risk | Not checking the kit contents list for your exact model. | Buying trim without the matching VE valve. |
Our Vogt product pages follow one pattern. A SET page says “Rough-in valve: included”, names the valve (for example VE.220) and lists what is in the kit. A TM page says “Trim only. Rough-in valve sold separately” and names the required VE valve. Still, read the page for your exact model before you order.
Matching pairs: SET, trim and valve
| Configuration | Kit (SET) | Trim (TM) | Valve (VE) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-way pressure-balanced | SET.AP.110.100 | TM.AP.110.100 | VE.110 |
| 2-way pressure-balanced | SET.KG.210.210 | TM.KG.210.210 | VE.210 |
| 2-way thermostatic | SET.KG.220.210 | TM.KG.220.210 | VE.220 |
| 3-way pressure-balanced | SET.KG.310.310 | TM.KG.310.310 | VE.310 |
| 3-way thermostatic | SET.KG.320.310 | TM.KG.320.310 | VE.320 |
| 3/4″ high-flow thermostatic with body jets | SET.KG.350.930 | TM.KG.350 | VE.350 |
| Wall-mount tub filler | — (trim and valve only) | TM.KG.2200 | VE.2200 |
These are Kapfenberg examples. Worgl (such as the WL 2-way thermostatic kit and the matching trim), Zehn (the 2-way thermostatic kit, offered with lever, 3-spoke or 4-spoke handle styles), Drava (the 3-way thermostatic kit with body jets) and Lusten (the 3-way pressure-balanced kit) follow the same code logic. Always read the “valve required” line on a trim’s page, because some trims point to a different valve than the pattern suggests.
Valve specs from Vogt’s sheets
Vogt publishes spec sheets for its main rough-in valves (VE.110, VE.210, VE.220, VE.310, VE.320). Key numbers:
| Valve | Type | Flow at 60 psi (per sheet) | Wall depth range (per sheet) | Cartridges (per sheet) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VE.110 | 1-way PB, ½″ male NPT | 5.5 gpm (21 lpm) | See sheet | CE.1440.PB |
| VE.210 | 2-way PB | 5.5 gpm (21 lpm) | 1½″–3″ (40–75 mm) | CE.1440.PB + CE.1403.PD diverter |
| VE.220 | 2-way thermostatic, ½″ male NPT | 6.1 gpm (23 lpm) | 2¼″–3¾″ (60–95 mm) | CE.1401.TT + CE.1710.DR diverter |
| VE.310 | 3-way PB | 5.7 gpm (21.5 lpm) | 1½″–3″ | CE.1440.PB + CE.1702.DR |
| VE.320 | 3-way thermostatic | 6.2 gpm (23.4 lpm) | 2¼″–3¾″ | CE.1401.TT + CE.1708.DR |
The VE.110 sheet cites ASSE 1016 and ASME A112.18.1 / CSA B125.1. Thermostatic valves have a higher minimum depth than pressure-balanced ones, so a shallow wall that suits a VE.210 may not suit a VE.220. Have your plumber check stud depth and finished-wall thickness against the sheet before framing is closed.
Pressure-balanced or thermostatic?
| Pressure-balanced (110 / 210 / 310) | Thermostatic (220 / 320) | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Balances hot and cold pressure to reduce temperature swings when other fixtures run. | Holds a set temperature. Vogt’s instructions say the thermostatic maximum is calibrated to 49°C (120°F). |
| Wall depth | Shallower (1½″–3″ on VE.210 / VE.310). | Deeper (2¼″–3¾″ on VE.220 / VE.320). |
| Choose if | You want a simpler control and less wall depth. | You want a set temperature and are happy to dial in two controls. |
Installation notes from Vogt’s instructions
Vogt’s installation instructions for the Kapfenberg TM.KG.220 trim include steps worth planning for:
- Use an experienced professional plumber.
- Secure the piping and consider water hammer arrestors.
- Flush debris and purge the lines for about 30 seconds.
- Remove cartridges before soldering.
- Wipe finishes dry after use, use mild pH-neutral soap, and avoid ammonia, bleach and alcohol-based cleaners.
Vogt’s warranty excludes improper installation, so the plumber’s work and your receipt matter. See our Vogt brand guide for the warranty summary.
Who should buy which?
| Your situation | Best route |
|---|---|
| Renovating one bathroom and buying everything at once | A SET kit. Confirm the “Rough-in valve: included” line on the page. |
| Plumber is roughing in now; finishes come later | VE valve now, TM trim later. |
| Replacing the trim on an existing Vogt valve | TM trim that lists your valve model. If unsure of the valve, check the model stamped or documented at install. |
| Shallow wall | Pressure-balanced (VE.110, VE.210, VE.310), after checking the sheet. |
| Want set temperature control | Thermostatic (VE.220 or VE.320). |
| Want body jets or a high-flow setup | Look at the 3/4″ kits such as SET.KG.350.930 and read its page carefully. |

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a Vogt SET and a TM?
A SET is a complete shower kit that includes the valve, while a TM is trim only and needs a separate VE rough-in valve. Check the product page: trims state that the valve is not included and name the VE valve required.
Which Vogt valve goes with my trim?
The middle number in the code usually shows the valve type: 110 is a 1-way pressure-balanced valve (VE.110), 210 is 2-way pressure-balanced (VE.210), 220 is 2-way thermostatic (VE.220), 310 is 3-way pressure-balanced (VE.310) and 320 is 3-way thermostatic (VE.320). Always confirm the required valve on the trim’s own product page.
Do all Vogt shower kits include the rough-in valve?
SET kits do: each SET page on our site states “Rough-in valve: included” and names the valve. TM trims do not; they are trim only and name the VE valve you must buy separately. Read the page for your exact model.
What is the flow rate of Vogt shower valves?
Vogt’s spec sheets list 5.5 gpm (21 lpm) for VE.110 and VE.210, 5.7 gpm for VE.310, 6.1 gpm (23 lpm) for VE.220 and 6.2 gpm for VE.320, all at 60 psi.
How deep does the wall need to be for a Vogt valve?
Vogt’s sheets show a rough-in depth of 1½″–3″ for VE.210 and VE.310, and 2¼″–3¾″ for VE.220 and VE.320. Check the sheet for the valve you buy and have your plumber confirm before the wall is closed.
What is the maximum temperature of a Vogt thermostatic valve?
Vogt’s installation instructions state the thermostatic maximum is calibrated to 49°C (120°F).
Can I replace just the trim on a Vogt shower?
Yes, if the valve behind the wall is a compatible Vogt VE valve. Match the trim to the valve model on the trim’s product page.
Are Vogt shower kits covered by warranty?
Vogt publishes a Limited Lifetime Warranty for the original owner-purchaser covering valves, cartridges, hand showers, hoses and finishes against defects under normal residential use, with proof of purchase required. Improper installation is excluded. Read Vogt’s full terms.
Our honest recommendation
If you are buying once and want the least room for error, choose a SET kit and confirm on its page that the valve is included (it will say “Rough-in valve: included”). If your plumber is roughing in before finishes are chosen, buy the VE valve first and pick the TM trim later — but write down the valve model. Choose pressure-balanced when wall depth is tight, and thermostatic when temperature control matters more than simplicity. When any product page is unclear about what is in the box, treat that as a question to answer before you order.
