Vogt makes sinks in two materials: stainless steel (304 series) and Vogranite, its quartz-and-acrylic composite. This guide compares them using Vogt’s own care page, warranty and spec sheets, including a same-size comparison of the Mitterdorf GS (Vogranite) and the Mitterdorf 18R (stainless). Our Vogt catalogue now includes a Vogranite line of kitchen sinks (single, double, low-divide, apron-front and top-mount) alongside a much larger stainless range, so you can choose on material as well as size.
Quick answer
- Vogranite (per Vogt: 80% quartz sand, 20% acrylic resin, non-porous) suits people who want a solid-colour bowl and will avoid abrasive scrubbing. Our Vogranite kitchen sinks list five finishes: Onyx Black, Metropolitan Grey, Frost White, Java Brown and Powder Grey.
- Stainless (Vogt: 304 series, 16 or 18 gauge) suits people who want the widest choice of sizes, bowl layouts and apron or top-mount styles, and who accept that it will pick up fine scratches.
- Same size? The Vogranite Mitterdorf GS and the stainless Mitterdorf 18R are both 25″ × 19″ × 12″ on Vogt’s sheets, so you can choose on material alone.

The Vogt stainless range: sizes and series
Vogt groups its stainless sinks into three series on our site: Premium (16 gauge on the product pages), Contemporary (18 gauge) and Classic (stainless steel; the Classic pages do not state a gauge). Here are examples with dimensions taken from the product titles and Vogt spec sheets:
| Model | Style | Size (product page) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Völker 16R | Undermount, double bowl 50/50, 10 mm radius | 34″ × 18″ × 10″ | 16 gauge, min. cabinet 36″, basket strainers and bottom grids included (spec sheet). |

| Ternitz 18R | Undermount, double bowl 60/40, 10 mm radius | 30″ × 18″ × 10″ | 18 gauge, min. cabinet 33″, strainers and bottom grids included (spec sheet). |
| Villach 18R | Undermount, double bowl, 10 mm radius | 32″ × 18″ × 10″ | 18 gauge, with strainers. |
| Leoben 18R | Undermount, double bowl | 26″ × 18″ × 9″ / 8″ | 18 gauge, with strainers; the two bowls have different depths. |
| Vienna 18Z | Undermount, single bowl, zero radius | 17″ × 17″ × 10″ | 18 gauge, with strainer. |
| Siena | Undermount, double bowl 60/40 | 32″ × 20¾″ × 9″ / 8″ | Classic series; strainer included (product page). |
| Steyr | Undermount, single bowl | 30″ × 18″ × 9″ | Classic series; strainer included (product page). |
| Donau | Top-mount, double bowl | 31⅜″ × 20½″ × 8″ | Classic series; strainer included (product page). |
| Breitach | Top-mount, single bowl | 25″ × 22″ × 8″ | Classic series; strainer included (product page). |
| Telf | Undermount, single bowl | 17⅛″ × 17⅛″ × 7″ | Classic series; strainer included (product page). |
“R” models have 10 mm radius corners; “Z” models are zero radius (sharper corners). Vogt’s stainless sinks go down to compact 15″ sizes and up to 34″ across the Premium, Contemporary and Classic series; check the collection for the size you need. The Völker and Ternitz sheets both list rear-positioned drains for maximum cabinet space and soundproof padding with undercoating.
16 gauge vs 18 gauge
A lower gauge number means thicker steel. Vogt’s Premium series is listed as 16 gauge and its Contemporary series as 18 gauge; the Classic series pages do not state a gauge, so check the spec sheet linked on the product page. Both are 304 series. Thicker steel generally feels more solid and can be quieter, though noise also depends on padding and installation. Our kitchen sink materials guide explains gauge in more detail.
Care: what to do and avoid
| Do | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Use stainless bottom grids to protect the bowl (Vogranite and stainless). | Steel wool and metal scrubs. |
| Wipe dry after use; use mild soap and warm water. | Concentrated bleach sitting in the sink, paint removers and strong drain cleaners. |
| Use white vinegar and water for mineral deposits (rinse after about 20 minutes on Vogranite). | Standing water, and wet sponges or rubber mats left in the bowl. |
| On stainless, consider a water softener if mineral build-up keeps returning (Vogt FAQ). | Leaving steel or cast-iron pots in a Vogranite sink; using either sink as a cutting surface. |
Who should buy which?
| If you… | Choose |
|---|---|
| Want a solid dark or light colour to match the counter, and cook with care around heat and impact | Vogranite: Mitterdorf GS for a compact single bowl, Bludenz GS for a double bowl |
| Need a large double bowl (30″ and up) | Stainless: Völker 16R or Ternitz 18R |
| Want an apron-front look | Stainless Judenburg 16R or Vogranite Neustadt GS |
| Want the tightest corners | Zero-radius stainless such as Villach 16Z |
| Are outfitting a compact laundry or bar area | Either Mitterdorf, or the small Vienna 18Z |
| Are hard on your sink with heavy pots | Stainless with a bottom grid, and accept fine scratches |
Pair the sink with a faucet from the same brand, such as the Zehn kitchen faucet, the Amade kitchen faucet, or the Zehn bridge kitchen faucet. For a pot filler, see the Drava pot filler. Sinks should be installed by a qualified installer; Vogt’s Vogranite warranty specifically excludes incorrect drilling and installation damage. Read our Vogt brand guide for the general warranty summary, and our Vogt shower kit guide if you are planning the bathroom too.
Frequently asked questions
What is Vogranite?
According to Vogt’s care page, Vogranite is made of 80% quartz sand and 20% acrylic resin and has a non-porous surface. Vogt’s kitchen page describes Vogranite sinks as scratch resistant with brushed satin finishes.
Is Vogranite better than stainless steel?
Neither is better for everyone. Vogranite gives a solid-colour bowl and is described by Vogt as scratch resistant, but its warranty excludes chips, burns and heavy impact. Stainless offers many more sizes and shapes, but shows fine scratches over time. Match the material to how you cook and clean.
Does Vogranite chip or stain?
Vogt’s Vogranite warranty excludes cuts, nicks, chipping, burning, melting, heavy impact, scuffs, chemical burns and stains, so treat it as durable but not indestructible. Vogt says metal marks can be removed by a circular rub with a scouring pad and mild cleaner.
Can hot pots go in a Vogranite sink?
Vogt’s warranty text says temperatures under 280° do not affect these products. Vogt also advises against leaving steel or cast pots in the sink; follow its care page and use a trivet for very hot cookware.
What Vogranite colours does Vogt offer?
The Mitterdorf GS is listed in Onyx Black, Metropolitan Grey, Frost White, Java Brown and Powder Grey on Vogt’s spec sheet, and our Vogranite kitchen sink pages list the same five finishes.
Do Vogt stainless sinks rust?
Vogt’s FAQ says its SUS 304 stainless steel sinks do not rust, and that surface rust spots come from external iron, such as steel wool or cast-iron items left on the sink. Wipe the sink dry and avoid leaving iron items in it.
What is the difference between 16 and 18 gauge?
A lower gauge number is thicker steel. Vogt’s Premium series sinks on our site are listed as 16 gauge and its Contemporary series as 18 gauge, both 304 series stainless. The Classic series pages list stainless steel without a gauge, so check the spec sheet on the product page.
What does R and Z mean in Vogt sink names?
R models have 10 mm radius corners and Z models have zero-radius (sharp) corners, as shown in the product names such as Völker 16R and Villach 16Z.
Are bottom grids included?
It depends on the model. Vogt’s spec sheets list basket strainers and bottom grids as included for the Völker 16R and Ternitz 18R, but the Mitterdorf sheets do not, so check the product page and add a grid if needed.
Does Vogt warrant its sinks?
Vogt’s spec sheets state a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects to the original consumer purchaser. Vogranite has its own terms with listed exclusions. Read the full warranty on Vogt’s site.
Our honest recommendation
If you want variety — large double bowls, apron fronts, zero-radius corners — choose Vogt stainless, ideally with a bottom grid, and accept that fine scratches are part of stainless. If you want a solid-colour bowl in a compact size and will avoid abrasive cleaning and heavy impacts, the Vogranite Mitterdorf GS is the one to look at. For the same footprint, the Mitterdorf 18R stainless is the direct comparison. Vogranite now comes in single, double, low-divide, apron-front and top-mount kitchen models, so check the size table above against your cabinet before deciding on material alone.
