A DXV shower is put together from parts: a showerhead, an arm, a hidden rough-in valve, a visible trim, and often a hand shower. The key is pairing each trim with the rough valve its page names. In this guide we only pair parts where our product page names the valve. We cover a modern Modulus shower and a traditional Oak Hill shower, in matching finishes. See more on our DXV brand page and in rain shower heads.
Step 1: choose the control type
- Pressure balance: one handle that holds the temperature steady when pressure changes. Read what is a pressure balance valve.
- Thermostatic: separate temperature and volume control. Read our thermostatic valve comparison.
- Diverter: sends water to a second or third outlet, such as a hand shower.
Step 2: match trim to rough valve (named on the page)
| Trim | Rough valve named on its page | Trim finishes |
|---|---|---|
| Modulus pressure balance trim | Flash shower rough-in valve (D35101SS0) | Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Platinum Nickel |
| Equility pressure balance trim | Flash rough-in (D35101SS0) | Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Matte Black |
| Oak Hill pressure balance trim | Flash shower rough-in valve | Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Platinum Nickel, Satin Brass |
| Modulus 2-handle thermostatic trim | D35005511 (volume control), D35005522, D35005523 (plus shared-function S versions) | Matte Black, Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Platinum Nickel |
| Modulus 3/2 or 4/3 diverter trim | D35000420 (3/2) or D35000430 (4/3) | Matte Black, Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Platinum Nickel |
| Equility 3/2 or 4/3 diverter trim | D35000420 or D35000430 | Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Matte Black |
The Oak Hill and Belshire thermostatic trims say only that they need a rough-in valve, sold separately. Their pages don't name the model, so we have not paired them here. Confirm with the spec sheet before roughing in. The thermostatic rough valves list forged brass bodies, a ½ in. thermostatic cartridge and an adjustable hot-limit safety stop. The 3-way versions also list integral check stops.
Build A: a modern Modulus shower
- Head: the Modulus 7.5 in. round showerhead (Matte Black, Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel). For a larger rain head, there is the slim square 12 in. on the 16 in. square arm (both Polished Chrome or Brushed Nickel).
- Arm: the Modulus 12 in. shower arm, brass with a 1/2 in. NPT connection, in four finishes.
- Valve and trim: the Modulus thermostatic trim on a named thermostatic rough valve, or the Modulus pressure balance trim on the Flash valve.
- Hand shower: the contemporary square hand shower set with 24 in. slide bar (Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Matte Black), fed by a diverter and a round wall elbow with vacuum breaker.
Build B: a traditional Oak Hill shower
- Head: the Oak Hill 10 in. round rain can, brass, pivoting, 1.8 gpm, in four finishes including Satin Brass.
- Arm: the Shepherd's Hook 12 in. arm (Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel, Platinum Nickel).
- Valve and trim: the Oak Hill pressure balance trim on the Flash rough-in valve, named on the trim page.
- Hand shower: the Oak Hill personal shower set, with a five-function hand shower, 24 in. slide bar and 5 ft metal hose, at 1.8 gpm.

FAQ
Which rough-in valve does a DXV pressure balance trim need?
Our Modulus, Equility and Oak Hill pressure balance trim pages name the Flash shower rough-in valve. The Modulus and Equility pages give the model number D35101SS0.
Which valve does the DXV Modulus thermostatic trim need?
The Modulus 2-handle thermostatic trim page names five rough valves: D35005522, D35005522S, D35005523, D35005523S and D35005511. These are the 2-handle thermostatic rough valves with 2-way or 3-way diverter, shared or non-shared, and with volume control.
How do I add a handheld to a DXV shower?
Use a diverter. The Modulus and Equility 3/2 or 4/3 diverter trims name the D35000420 (3/2 port) and D35000430 (4/3 port) rough valves. Then add a hand shower set and a wall elbow, which our pages list with a built-in vacuum breaker.
Can I match every part in Matte Black?
In the Modulus line, the 7.5 in. showerhead, 12 in. shower arm, thermostatic trim, diverter trim and contemporary square hand shower set are all listed in Matte Black. The Modulus pressure balance trim is not, so use the thermostatic route for an all-black shower.
Is there a Satin Brass DXV shower?
For a traditional shower, yes. The Oak Hill 10 in. rain can showerhead, pressure balance trim and personal shower set are all listed in Satin Brass. Our shower arm pages do not list Satin Brass, so check the finish when you choose an arm.
