Air jet tubs get a lot of searches in Canada, and Oceania, a Quebec maker, specializes in them. But is an air bath worth it over a plain soaker? Using the Oceania Pure 6030, which we list in both versions, here's what the AeroMassage system adds, what it needs, and the Canadian-specific points to plan for.
What AeroMassage is
AeroMassage is Oceania's therapeutic air bath. Instead of water jets, a blower pushes warm air through small flush jets around the lower edge of the tub, creating a gentle, bubbling massage. On the Pure 6030 it's factory-installed with:
- 41 Easy Clean flush hot-air jets
- humidity sensors
- the Tranquility Plus blower with a 600 W heating element
- a keypad (shipped loose, not installed) and a floating remote control
Oceania's air system runs an automatic drying cycle. About 13 minutes after you use the jets, the blower runs for roughly two minutes to dry the air channels. If water sits in the tub for 40 minutes without the keypad being used, it runs the cycle as well, and repeats until the system is dry. So the jets dry themselves; you don't have to flush them.

What an air jet tub needs in your home
From Oceania's air jet technical manual:
- Its own circuit. Connect only to a 15 amp, 120 V supply protected by a Class A GFCI, wired permanently to the panel by an electrician. Never use an extension cord.
- Service access. The blower and electronic control must stay accessible. In a deck install, Oceania requires an access panel of at least one square foot, and says no warranty repair will be done without one. With the Pure's integrated skirt, ask your installer how they'll keep the blower reachable, for example from an adjoining closet or wall.
- Warm air for the blower. The blower must draw warm room air, not cold outside air, and should not sit in a space that drops below 20°C (68°F).
The Canadian angle
That last point matters here. A tub against an exterior wall, or with an unheated space below it, can get cold in a Canadian winter. Oceania says the blower should stay in a space at least 20°C, so plan where it sits before the walls close in. On the plus side, the heated blower warms the air going into the jets, which is welcome when the bathroom is chilly. The tub itself is built in Thetford Mines, Quebec.
Is it worth it?
Choose AeroMassage if you take long baths for relaxation or sore muscles, you can add a dedicated GFCI circuit, and you can keep the blower accessible.
Choose the soaker if the tub is mostly for kids' baths and showers, you don't want to add electrical work, or the alcove has no practical access for service. You get the same shell and depth with nothing to maintain.
Either way, you'll need to add a round drain and overflow; Oceania recommends the WOCO14. Our Oceania Pure alcove bathtub guide covers drain hand and finish options.
Oceania also offers AeroMassage on its other tubs, including the freestanding models in our Banook vs Mystic guide. See every Oceania product we list on our Oceania brand page, or browse all alcove bathtubs.
FAQ
What is the difference between an air tub and a whirlpool?
An air tub like Oceania AeroMassage blows warm air through small flush jets for a gentle bubbling massage. A whirlpool pumps water through larger jets. Oceania's AeroMassage is an air system.
Does an Oceania AeroMassage tub need a dedicated circuit?
Yes. Oceania's manual says to connect only to a 15 amp, 120 volt supply protected by a Class A GFCI, wired permanently by an electrician.
How many jets does the Oceania Pure 6030 AeroMassage have?
41 Easy Clean flush hot-air jets, with humidity sensors and the Tranquility Plus blower with a 600 W heater.
Do air jets get mouldy or need cleaning?
Oceania's system runs an automatic drying cycle after use: the blower runs for about two minutes to dry the air channels, and repeats until the system is dry.
Can the blower go in an unheated space?
No. Oceania says the blower must draw warm room air and should not be installed where the temperature can drop below 20°C (68°F).
