Riobel shower kits look alike on a product grid, but the model numbers hide real differences. Some kits include the valve and some don't. Some run two outlets together and some only one at a time. Some use a simple pressure balance valve, and others a thermostatic/pressure balance valve with three, five or six functions. This guide compares the kits side by side: Arca, Nibi, Equinox, Momenti and Paradox, plus the GS and Edge kits we stock. It also explains what happened to Zendo.
All the specs here come from Riobel's own spec sheets. Riobel's Canadian site, riobel.ca, now redirects to House of Rohl, and each Riobel product page there links to the official spec sheet. Prices are ours in Canadian dollars. Every product linked is in stock on our site and current on Riobel's. For the Riobel brand story and how it compares with other brands, see Riobel: quality and affordability. For a general look at Riobel shower systems, see our Riobel shower system review.
Quick answer
- Two valve types: Type P (pressure balance, 1 function, R51 rough) and Type T/P (thermostatic and pressure balance, 2 to 6 functions, R23, R45 or R46 rough).
- Simplest shower, one hand shower: a Type P "54" shower, for example the Nibi NB54 ($556.50 in chrome), which includes the R51 rough.
- Tub and shower: a 4744 kit (shower head + tub spout, R23 included), for example the Equinox KIT4744EQN ($857.50 in chrome) or the GS KIT4744GS ($696.50 in chrome).
- Rain head + hand shower together: a TKIT323 trim kit plus an R23, for example the Arca TKIT323AA + R23 = $1,140.30 in chrome.
- Three outlets or body jets: the Paradox KIT3545PXTM ($1,696.10) or the Equinox KIT2745EQN ($2,064.30 in chrome) (R45 included).
- Zendo: Riobel lists the Zendo shower kits as discontinued, so we've left them out of the picks.

How a Riobel shower is built: rough + trim + outlets
Every Riobel shower in this guide has three parts:
- The rough-in valve ("rough" on Riobel's sheets). The body that sits inside the wall and connects to the hot and cold supply. Riobel's roughs come with service valves and a test cap, and in three connection versions: standard (NPT or sweat), -EX (expansion PEX) and -SPEX (PEX).
- The valve trim. The plate and handle(s) you see, with the cartridge that mixes and diverts the water. Riobel names trims T + series + number: TAA23 is an Arca 23 trim, TNB44 a Nibi 44 trim, TEQ45N an Equinox 45 trim.
- The outlets. Shower head and arm, hand shower rail or set, tub spout, body jets, and the elbow or outlet that feeds the hand shower hose.
The rough decides how many outlets the shower can run. The trim decides how they are shared and what it looks like. The rough isn't tied to one series. Riobel's R23 sheet says "TXX23XX or TXX44XX trim required to complete", where the XX stands for the series code, so an R23 takes an Arca, Nibi, Equinox, Momenti or Paradox 23 or 44 trim.
KIT, TKIT and "54" showers
- KIT (for example KIT4744, KIT2745, KIT3545, KIT446): on the kits in this guide, the composition includes the rough. The Nibi KIT4744NB includes the TNB44 trim, the R23 rough, a 366 two-jet shower head with arm and the NB80 tub spout.
- TKIT (for example TKIT323, TKIT1244, TKIT4744): trim only. Riobel's sheets say "R23, R23-SPEX or R23-EX rough required to complete" and "Trim only". Budget for the R23 ($154.70) on top.
- 54 (for example AA54, NB54, EQ54N): a Type P pressure balance shower with a hand shower rail. The composition includes the R51 rough, for example the Arca AA54: TAA51 trim, R51 rough, 5163 hand shower rail and 740 elbow supply.
Type P vs Type T/P: the two Riobel valve types
Riobel prints the valve type on every shower spec sheet. Here's what each sheet says.
| Type P (pressure balance) | Type T/P (thermostatic/pressure balance) | |
|---|---|---|
| Cartridge (Riobel wording) | "Ceramic cartridge and balancing spool with check valves" | "Thermostatic / pressure balance coaxial cartridge with check valves" |
| How Riobel describes it | "Double action: flow and temperature control" | "Combines both thermostatic and pressure balance technologies" and "'Set it and forget it' temperature control" (newer Equinox and Momenti sheets) |
| Functions | 1 | 2-way: up to 3. 3-way: up to 5. 3/4" R46: up to 6 |
| Rough | R51 ($119.70) | R23 2-way ($154.70), R45 3-way ($200.90), or R46 3/4" (included in 446 kits) |
| Trim codes | TXX51 | TXX44, TXX23 (R23), TXX45, TXX47 (R45), TXX46 (R46) |
| Flow at 60 psi (valve trim) | 22 L/min, 5.8 gpm | 24 L/min, 6.3 gpm on most trims; 23 L/min, 6.0 gpm on the Paradox, GS and Momenti 4744 trims; 38 L/min, 10 gpm for the Equinox TEQ46N |
| Kits in this guide | AA54, NB54, EQ54N, MMRD54J, PXTM54 | 4744, 1244, 323, 2745, 3545, 446 |
| Standards listed | CSA B125.1 / ASME A112.18.1, ASSE 1016 | CSA B125.1 / ASME A112.18.1, ASSE 1016 |
What that means in the shower
Type P is a pressure balance valve: it reacts to changes in hot and cold pressure (someone flushing a toilet, for example) to limit temperature swings. It's the simpler, lower-cost option, and on Riobel it runs one function, which on the "54" showers is the hand shower. The Equinox TEQ51N sheet adds that the valve has a "bottom outlet compatible with diverter tub spout".
Type T/P adds thermostatic control on top of pressure balance, so you set the temperature and the valve works to hold it, and a diverter to choose between outlets. Riobel calls the cartridge "coaxial", and its newer sheets describe "temperature and volume control with diverter". If you want a rain head and a hand shower, a tub spout and a head, or body jets, you need Type T/P.
One detail from the Type T/P sheets matters when choosing shower heads: "Type TP – For use with shower heads rated at 7 L/min (1.8 gpm) or higher." Several Riobel heads and hand showers come in WaterSense (-WS) or 1.5 gpm (-15) versions. If you plan to use a lower-flow head on a Type T/P valve, check with us or your plumber first.

Functions, positions and "share" vs "no share"
Riobel lists the diverter positions on each trim sheet. The number of functions is the number of positions minus OFF.
| Trim | Used in | Rough | Positions (Riobel) | Functions | Outlets |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TXX51 Type P | 54 showers | R51 | On/off with temperature | 1 | 1 (hand shower). Bottom outlet on the R51 |
| TXX44 2-way no share | 4744, 1244 kits | R23 | 3 (OFF, 1, 2) | 2 | 2, one at a time |
| TXX23 2-way shared | 323 kits | R23 | 4 (OFF, 1, 1 and 2, 2) | 3 | 2, alone or together |
| TXX45 3-way shared | 2745, 3545 kits | R45 | 6 (OFF, 1, 1 and 2, 2, 2 and 3, 3) | 5 | 3 |
| TXX47 3-way no share | Not in the kits here | R45 | Riobel lists it as the no-share 45 option | – | 3, one at a time |
| TEQ46N 3/4" | Equinox 446 kit | R46 | "2 temperature and volume controls with diverters, 4 dedicated functions and 2 shared functions" | 6 | Up to 4 ports on the R46 |
The newer Equinox sheets describe the same thing in different words: the TEQ44N has "2 dedicated functions", the TEQ23N "2 dedicated functions and 1 shared function", and the TEQ45N "3 dedicated functions and 2 shared functions".
Rule of thumb: if you want the rain head and hand shower running at the same time, choose a shared trim (23 or 45). If a tub spout and a head, or a hand shower and a spout, is all you need, a no-share 44 trim does the job at a lower price.
Riobel kit number decoder
The kit number is the configuration, and it means the same thing in every series. The letters after it are the series: AA = Arca, NB = Nibi, EQN = Equinox (current version), MMRDJ = Momenti, PXTM = Paradox, ZOTQ = Zendo, GS = GS, EDTM = Edge, RUTM = Riu. The last letter or letters are the finish (C = chrome, BK = black and so on).
| Kit number | Valve | Rough | What's in it (per Riobel's kit sheets) | Rough included? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 54 | Type P, 1 function | R51 | TXX51 trim, R51, hand shower rail or set, elbow or outlet | Yes |
| 4744 (KIT) | T/P 2-way no share | R23 | TXX44 trim, R23, shower head with arm, wall-mount tub spout | Yes |
| 4744 (TKIT) | T/P 2-way no share | R23 | Same outlets, trim only (Momenti TKIT4744MMRDJ) | No |
| 1244 (TKIT) | T/P 2-way no share | R23 | TXX44 trim, hand shower rail, elbow supply, tub spout | No |
| 323 (TKIT) | T/P 2-way shared | R23 | TXX23 trim, hand shower rail, 8" shower head, shower arm(s), elbow supply | No |
| 1345 (TKIT) | T/P 3-way | R45 | 3-way trim kit (we don't link any in this guide) | No |
| 2745 (KIT) | T/P 3-way shared | R45 | TXX45 trim, R45, hand shower, rain/waterfall head | Yes |
| 3545 (KIT) | T/P 3-way shared | R45 | TXX45 trim, R45, hand shower, shower head, body jets | Yes |
| 446 (KIT) | T/P 3/4" double | R46 | TXX46 trim, R46, hand shower, rain head and arm, body sprays | Yes |
Note on the Equinox "N" sheets (dated 09/25): the kit composition lists the R23, R45 or R46 rough, while the trim's own page on the same sheet says "Rough-in valve sold separately". The trim model (TEQ44N, TEQ45N, TEQ46N) is sold without the rough. Our Equinox KIT product pages list the rough as included. If you're unsure, check the included-items list on the product page or ask us.
Series by series
Arca, Nibi, Equinox, Momenti and Paradox all use the same valves. The differences are the design, the outlets in each kit, the finishes and the price.
Arca
Arca's kits we link are trim kits plus the Type P shower. Riobel's site now lists the Arca KIT4744AA and KIT2745AA as discontinued, so the current Arca choices are:
- Arca TKIT323AA ($985.60 in chrome): TAA23 2-way shared trim (4 positions), 5163 hand shower rail (3-jet hand shower, 150 cm / 59" double-interlock hose, 22 mm / 7/8" slide bar, rated 6.7 L/min / 1.8 gpm), 468 20 cm (8") shower head, 503 40 cm (16") wall arm, 508 15 cm (6") vertical arm and 740 elbow supply. Needs an R23, so the total with the rough is $1,140.30.
- Arca TKIT1244AA ($883.40 in chrome): TAA44 2-way no-share trim, 5163 hand shower rail, 740 elbow and AA80 tub spout. A tub with a hand shower and no fixed head. With an R23: $1,038.10.

Equinox
Equinox has square, angular lines, and its current kits use the newer "N" trims (TEQ44N, TEQ45N, TEQ46N, TEQ51N). It's also the series with the most configurations in this guide, from a Type P shower up to a 3/4" system with body sprays.
- Equinox KIT4744EQN ($857.50 in chrome): TEQ44N trim ("2 dedicated functions"), R23, R376 5" 6-function shower head with arm and EQ80 tub spout.
- Equinox KIT2745EQN ($2,064.30 in chrome): TEQ45N ("3 dedicated functions and 2 shared functions"), R45, 4835 hand shower set with 36" slide bar and 3-function hand shower, 404 22" x 9" waterfall and rain head (rain and cascade functions, two 1/2" inlets) and 772 hand shower outlet. Momenti
Riobel lists several Momenti kits as discontinued (the KIT3545MMRDJ, the KIT446MMRDJ and the TKIT1345MMRDJ). The current ones we link are:
- Momenti TKIT4744MMRDJ ($856.80 in chrome): TMMRD44J trim ("2 dedicated functions", 23 L/min, 6.0 gpm at 60 psi), 356 5" 6-function shower head with arm and MM80 tub spout. It's trim only ("Rough-in valve sold separately: Order R23"), so the total with the rough is $1,011.50.

Riobel notes that the body jets "must be ordered at the same time as the valve rough", because their own rough goes in the wall at the same stage.
- Paradox PXTM54 ($724.50 in chrome): Type P, TPXTM51 trim, R51, 4844 hand shower rail and 710 elbow.

Zendo (discontinued)
Zendo gets a lot of searches, so here's the short version. Riobel's product pages list every Zendo shower kit we checked as discontinued: the KIT4744ZOTQ, KIT2745ZOTQ, KIT3545ZOTQ, TKIT323ZOTQ, TKIT1244ZOTQ, TKIT1345ZOTQ, the TZOTQ23 trim and the ZOTQ54 Type P shower. So we haven't linked or recommended any Zendo kit here.
The Zendo kits we checked used the same roughs as the other series (R23 for the 4744 and 323, R45 for the 2745 and 3545, R51 for the ZOTQ54). If you have a Zendo shower and want a new look, or a replacement for a worn trim, a current trim of the same type may be an option. Send us the model number on your Zendo documents or valve and we'll confirm what matches before you order. If you like Zendo's square lines, look at Equinox or Edge.
Other Riobel kits we stock
The same 4744 layout comes in other series. These two are useful if the budget is tight or you prefer a different look:
- GS KIT4744GS ($696.50 in chrome): TGS44 2-way no-share trim (23 L/min, 6.0 gpm at 60 psi), R23, 366 two-jet head with arm and 870 tub spout. The lowest-priced Type T/P kit with the rough included in this guide. Finishes: Chrome, Black.

If you're between two series, the valves are the same, so choose on design, the outlets in the kit and the finish you want. If you're between two configurations, decide first whether you want two outlets running at the same time (shared) and whether you need a tub spout.

Installation notes
Choose the rough version for your pipe
- R23 and R45: 1/2" inlet, with two (R23) or three (R45) 1/2" outlets. Standard version male NPT or sweat, -EX expansion PEX, -SPEX PEX.
- R51: 1/2" inlet and shower outlet. On the -EX and -SPEX versions, Riobel lists the bath outlet as 3/4" PEX (expansion PEX on the -EX) or 1/2" sweat.
- R46: 3/4" male NPT inlet and four 1/2" female NPT outlets. Riobel says it "must be supplied with minimum 3/4" PEX, 3/4" EXPANSION PEX or 1/2" copper". Check your supply before choosing the Equinox 446.
On the kits with the rough included, choose the NPT/Sweat, PEX or Expansion PEX option on the product page to get the matching R23, R45 or R51 version.
Things to plan before the wall closes
- Rough depth: each rough's spec sheet has a drawing with the depth range. Your plumber sets the valve to it so the trim sits properly on the finished wall.
- Test cap and service valves: every rough in this guide comes with both. The test cap is for pressure testing before the trim goes on, and the service valves let the cartridge be serviced later without shutting off the house.
- Body jets and special roughs: the Paradox 3545 body jets "must be ordered at the same time as the valve rough", and the Equinox 404 waterfall head and 3545 body sprays list their own rough. Order the full kit before rough-in.
- Outlet locations: mark the head height, the hand shower rail and the spout before the plumbing goes in. The TKIT323 kits include both a 16" wall arm and a 6" vertical arm.
- Head flow rate: with a Type T/P valve, stick to heads rated 1.8 gpm (7 L/min) or higher, per Riobel's note.
Local code and permits
Riobel's sheets list CSA B125.1 / ASME A112.18.1 and ASSE 1016 for the trims and kits, and CMR248 approval on the roughs. What your project needs is decided by your local plumbing code: whether a permit is required, whether a licensed plumber must do the work, and what mixing-valve and temperature requirements apply. In Ontario that's the Ontario Building Code as administered by your municipality, and other provinces have their own. Check with your building department before you start.

Riobel warranty
Riobel's spec sheets use two versions of the warranty wording.
- Older sheets (for example the Paradox, GS and Momenti 54 sheets): "This Riobel Inc. product you have purchased carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the chrome, PVD finish, blacks and all working parts and is guaranteed from the initial purchase date against all manufacturing defects. All other finishes, including plastic components, are guaranteed for one year. All electric and/or electronic parts are covered by a 5-year limited warranty."
- Newer sheets (for example the Arca, Nibi and Equinox sheets): "Most products or parts carry 'Limited Warranties' against manufacturing defects." They direct Canadian customers to houseofrohl.ca/support for the complete product and finish warranty.
For warranty questions, the Riobel sheets list 1-800-287-5354 for Ontario and 1-866-473-8442 for Quebec, the Maritimes and Western Canada. Keep your receipt and the model numbers of the kit and the rough.
Our recommendation
- Tub and shower: a 4744 kit with the R23 included. The GS KIT4744GS ($696.50) is the lowest-priced; the Equinox KIT4744EQN ($857.50) adds a 6-function head and satin brass as a finish option.
- Walk-in shower with rain head and hand shower: Arca TKIT323AA + R23, $1,140.30, in five finishes.
- One hand shower, simplest: a Type P 54 shower such as the Nibi NB54 ($556.50 in chrome).
- Spa-style: Paradox KIT3545PXTM ($1,696.10) for body jets, or Equinox KIT446EQN ($2,156 in chrome) for a 3/4" system.

FAQ
What is the difference between Riobel Type P and Type T/P?
Type P is Riobel's pressure balance valve. Its spec sheets describe a ceramic cartridge and balancing spool with check valves, with "double action: flow and temperature control", and it runs one function. Type T/P combines thermostatic and pressure balance technologies in one coaxial cartridge with check valves, and it runs two or more functions through a built-in diverter. Type P showers use the R51 rough. Type T/P uses the R23 (2-way), R45 (3-way) or R46 (3/4" multi-function) rough.
What does KIT vs TKIT mean on a Riobel shower?
On the kits in this guide, a KIT includes the rough-in valve and a TKIT is trim only. Riobel's TKIT spec sheets say "R23, R23-SPEX or R23-EX rough required to complete" and "Trim only". So a TKIT323 or TKIT1244 needs an R23 bought separately, while a KIT4744 comes with the R23. The Type P "54" showers (AA54, NB54, EQ54N and so on) also include the R51 rough. Always check the included-items list on the product page before ordering.
What do Riobel kit numbers like 4744, 323 and 2745 mean?
They describe the configuration and are the same across series. In the kits we checked: 4744 is a 2-way no-share valve with a shower head and a tub spout. 1244 is 2-way no-share with a hand shower rail and a tub spout. 323 is 2-way shared with a shower head and a hand shower rail. 1345 is a 3-way trim kit. 2745 and 3545 are 3-way kits on the R45 (3545 adds body jets). 446 is the 3/4" R46 system with two controls and body sprays. 54 is a Type P shower with a hand shower rail. The letters after the number are the series (AA Arca, NB Nibi, EQN Equinox, MMRDJ Momenti, PXTM Paradox, ZOTQ Zendo).
What does "no share" mean on a Riobel diverter?
It means the outlets run one at a time. Riobel's 2-way no-share trims (the 44 trims used in 4744 and 1244 kits) have 3 positions: OFF, 1 and 2. A shared 2-way trim (the 23 trims used in 323 kits) has 4 positions: OFF, 1, 1 and 2 together, and 2. A shared 3-way trim (45) has 6 positions: OFF, 1, 1 and 2, 2, 2 and 3, and 3.
Can I run a rain head and a hand shower at the same time?
Yes, with a shared valve. The 323 kits (2-way shared) and the 3-way 45 trims include positions where two outlets run together. The 4744 and 1244 kits are no-share, so their two outlets run one at a time.
Which Riobel rough valve do I need?
It depends on the trim. Riobel's spec sheets say the R23 takes TXX23 (shared) or TXX44 (no share) trims and runs up to 3 functions. The R45 takes TXX45 (shared) or TXX47 (no share) trims and runs up to 5 functions. The R51 takes TXX51 Type P trims. The R46 takes TXX46 or TXX88 trims. Each comes in a standard version (NPT or sweat), an -EX expansion PEX version and a -SPEX PEX version, except the R46.
Is Zendo discontinued?
Riobel's Canadian product pages (riobel.ca now redirects to houseofrohl.ca) list the Zendo shower kits we checked as discontinued, including the 4744, 2745, 3545, 323, 1244 and 1345 Zendo kits and the ZOTQ54 Type P shower. So we haven't linked them in this guide. The Zendo kits we checked used the same R23, R45 and R51 roughs as the other series. Before you order a replacement trim for an existing Zendo shower, send us your model number and we'll confirm what fits.
Do Riobel Type T/P valves work with low-flow shower heads?
Check first. Several Riobel Type T/P trim spec sheets say: "Type TP – For use with shower heads rated at 7 L/min (1.8 gpm) or higher." Some Riobel heads and hand showers come in WaterSense (WS) or 1.5 gpm (-15) versions, so if you're swapping to a lower-flow head, confirm it with us or your plumber before buying.
What finishes do Riobel shower kits come in?
It varies by kit. On the kits in this guide, we stock chrome on every one, and depending on the kit also black, brushed nickel, brushed gold, polished nickel, satin brass (Equinox) and brushed chrome (some Nibi 4744 versions). Chrome is the lowest price on every kit we compared. The finish table in this guide lists what's available for each.
What warranty do Riobel shower kits have?
Riobel's older spec sheets say the product "carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the chrome, PVD finish, blacks and all working parts" against manufacturing defects from the initial purchase date, with other finishes (including plastic components) covered for one year and electric or electronic parts for 5 years. Riobel's newer sheets say most products or parts carry limited warranties against manufacturing defects and direct Canadian customers to houseofrohl.ca/support for the complete product and finish warranty.
Do I need a plumber to install a Riobel shower kit?
The rough-in valve goes inside the wall and connects to your hot and cold supply, so in most cases, yes. Permits, who may do the work, and mixing-valve requirements are set by your local plumbing code, so check with your municipal building department. The trim can be changed later without opening the wall, as long as it matches the rough.
Do you ship Riobel shower kits across Canada?
Yes. Plumbing Market ships across Canada, with free shipping on orders over $900. You can also visit our Vaughan, Ontario showroom, or call 289-236-2378 or email sales@plumbingmarket.ca with the kit and rough model numbers and we'll check they match.
